A Summer of Adventure, Nature, and Purpose: TARA’s Camp in Manali

ManaliCamp

From 15 to 19 June, a group of 30 children and 10 adult staff members from TARA Homes set off on an unforgettable summer camp in the mountains of Manali. Organised in collaboration with Healing Himalayas Foundation, the trip combined outdoor exploration, environmental action, and cultural discovery.

The group was accommodated in 11 large tents nestled between apple orchards and pine forests. For many of the children, this was their first experience of sleeping outdoors and living so close to nature. It was an exciting change—sharing a tent with friends, waking up to the sound of birds, and gazing at the stars created a sense of joy, freedom, and adventure.

Each day offered something new. The children hiked to sacred sites like Manu Temple and Hadimba Temple, wandered along forest trails and riversides, and enjoyed quiet moments by the Beas River. They also joined clean-up drives, collecting waste in the forest and near popular tourist areas. Guided by the Healing Himalayas team, the children donned gloves and raincoats, working in groups and turning the task into a cheerful competition. The bags filled with litter at the end of the day were a source of pride and learning.

Even rainy spells became moments of connection. Indoors, the group played games, sang songs, and enjoyed each other’s company. One evening, a bonfire lit up the camp, and everyone gathered to dance, laugh, and share stories under a sky full of stars.

The highlight for many was the trek to Jogini Falls. The climb was steep and adventurous, but the reward was worth it: a stunning waterfall and a peaceful space for reflection. There, the group took time to speak about their hopes, ambitions, and future.

More than a holiday, this summer camp was a chance to grow, explore, and build lasting memories—in nature, and together.
